Tierra Amarilla Anticline (extended moderate hike on 4 or more hour tour)
Few places boast the scenic marvels and magnificent landscapes of the Land of Enchantment. And few places in New Mexico can compare with the rugged beauty surrounding White Mesa. Painted deserts, high mesas, and sandstone cliffs conceal ancient ruins, petroglyphs, fossils and historic homesteads. Volcanic necks dominate the vistas, and folds in the earth reveal layers of ages past. Years ago the Rio Grande valley was formed by the separation of enormous tectonic plates . On the eastern side, the plates shifted back and tilted to form the Sandia Mountains. On the western side, the earth ripped open to create the Tierra Amarilla Anticline. Not far from here was discovered one of the longest dinosaur fossils ever found, the gigantic Seismosaurus. Enter a landscape where ancient sea beds, once deep within the earth, are now revealed as painted deserts and gypsum formations in a geological wonderland.
Please note: While the additional White Mesa tour options involve longer hikes, all tours are fully customizable and can include as much or as little hiking as your party would like.

Create Your Own Tour The options listed below can be added to the 3 hour tour to increase tour length. Mix and match options to create up to a 7 hour tour. The choice is yours!
Tierra Amarilla Anticline hike: ONE HOUR For those interested in doing a little more hiking, add a hike to the Tierra 
Amarilla Anticline and take in the amazing vistas of the White Mesa trails. This is an approximately 1 mile round trip moderate hike which includes numerous inclines but is rewarded with incredible views. Can be abbreviated in the interest of time.
Hoodoo hike: ONE HOUR Hike in to the hoodoo (sandstone spires) site to see 
some remarkable sandstone formations. This is a two mile hike over fairly level terrain.
Seismosaurus/petroglyph hike: TWO HOURS If dinosaurs and petroglyphs (prehistoric rock etchings)
are your thing, the Seismosaurus / petroglyph hike is a moderate TWO AND A HALF MILE ROUND TRIP HIKE on fairly level ground (site where the Seismosaurus dinosaur was found; fossils have been removed and are now in the Albuquerque Museum of Natural History)
Sacred Pools hike: TWO HOURS To the north of White Mesa lies a sandstone 
strata etched by time and ancient people. Visit a shallow slot canyon of scattered pools in which the Ancestral Pueblo carved unique petroglyphs. This is a one mile round trip hike over fairly level sandstone

A $50 DEPOSIT will be required to secure tour reservation. Deposits will be subtracted from the total cost when payment is taken at the end of your tour. Deposits will be refunded if tour is cancelled due to weather. Deposits will also be refunded if cancellation is requested by customer MORE THAN 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE of tour start time.
