Off the Pavement Since 2007
New Mexico Jeep Tours started in 2007. Inspired by Jeep tours he took in Arizona and California, Roch Hart, a retired Albuquerque policeman, returned to the Land of Enchantment and started his own business. He worked with the BLM and with ranchers for permission to visit their land, and ran his first tours in a Jeep he named Precious.
In 2011, Clint West began guiding for NMJT, and took over as owner in November 2015. Guests describe Clint as a naturalist, archaeologist, paleontologist, geologist and historian in one, and an expert off-roader and rock crawler.
Today we hold exclusive access to a 20,000 acre private ranch in the vast southwest landscape between Albuquerque and Santa Fe — the country behind Lonesome Dove, Maze Runner and Lone Survivor, movie set included.
Put Me in a Jeep and Send Me into the Desert
Clint West would rather be on the trail than anywhere else. He is the guide on many tours, and is often the one waiting near the trailhead in Placitas.
Tell him what you want to see. The ghost town of Hagan, the petroglyph hike, the wild horses: the answer is usually “let’s do as many as we can.” Every tour is private, so the pace and the stops are yours, and the day can stretch when the schedule allows.
Websites and marketing are not his thing. Jeep tours are. Send him into the desert and he will stay out there all day.
Keeping the Land of Enchantment Enchanting
We love the Land of Enchantment, and we want to keep it enchanting. On every tour, artifacts and pottery stay exactly where they lie — removing them is a federal crime — and we never touch a petroglyph. Formations are left as we found them, fossils stay in place and get reported, and litter goes home with us. We try to leave places in better shape than we find them.
We work with local and federal authorities to protect the cultural and natural resources on the land we visit, and we ask you to do the same while you are out there with us. Read our outdoor and sensitive-site ethics.

We meet for free at The Merc in Placitas, 20 minutes north of Albuquerque or we can pick you up where you're staying in Albuqueque or the Hyatt Tamaya for a small fee.
