Who We Are

New Mexico Jeep Tours has been taking small groups off the pavement since 2007. Every tour is private, so only your party rides along, and your guide does the driving while you watch the country roll by. We have exclusive access to a 20,000-acre private ranch between Albuquerque and Santa Fe: Ancestral Puebloan ruins, petroglyphs, sea-life fossils, painted hills and ghost towns, on land that has doubled as a film set for Lonesome Dove, Maze Runner and Lone Survivor. Wild horses wander the southwestern landscapes, and are seen on almost every tour. They're wild, so we can't guarantee them, but keep your camera ready! Tours run 3 to 7 hours, year round, with chilled water and snacks on board and lunch on the longer days. Hike as much or as little as you like; some of our best spots never require leaving the Jeep. We are fully insured, permitted and certified, and we are doing our best to do it right.

Ghost towns cast shadows of the historic past. Ancestral Puebloan ruins and petroglyphs offer a glimpse of life in bygone days. Painted hills and sea-life fossils reveal vast changes through the ages, and wild horses wander the dry, winding paths of the high desert. We hold exclusive access to a 20,000-acre private ranch in the southwest landscape between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Hollywood found it too: Lonesome Dove, Maze Runner and Lone Survivor were filmed here, and the ranch keeps its own movie set. Longer tours reach the coal-mining ghost town of Hagan, once home to the largest adobe structure in New Mexico, a Cretaceous dinosaur fossil, the ancient faces of Ceremony Rock and the Tejon slot canyon. We are over a mile high with low humidity, so the light is sharp and the sky is big. Bring sunscreen and closed-toe shoes.

Plain answers before you book

Do we drive our own vehicle, or is there a guide?

All of our tours have a driver/guide who drives the Jeep. When you book a tour, you will be a passenger in the Jeep and will not be driving a vehicle.

How many people can you take on a tour?

We can currently take up to 15 people on a tour using our two Jeep Wranglers and our Safari Van.

Is hiking/walking required on the Jeep tour?

For those who do not wish to hike, we can cater the Jeep tour to your needs. While some of the destinations listed in the tour descriptions require hiking to see, there are alternate destinations that require little or no hiking. For those wishing only to ride, we can take you to some amazing places with beautiful scenery without ever setting foot outside the Jeep.

What should I wear?

Depending on the time of year, the sun can be pretty intense as we’re over a mile high with low humidity. Either wear clothes that cover you up, or slather on the sunscreen. Closed toe and heel shoes are definitely recommended for keeping cactus and rocks from harming your feet.

Will we be seeing lots of wild horses?

We see wild horses on almost every tour, but, since they are wild, we cannot guarantee that we will see them.

Do you accept credit cards?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and cash.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is included on our 6- and 7-hour tours. Every tour includes chilled bottled water and snacks. If a 4- or 5-hour tour runs into the lunch hour you are welcome to bring your own food; anything that needs refrigeration has to fit in the cooler with the water, so keep it simple. You can also order a lunch ahead of time through our lunch menu order form .

Will we be sharing a Jeep with people we don’t know?

No. Every tour is private to your party. The one exception is if you choose to let a single rider join you, which some guests do to take advantage of the group rate.

Can we extend or shorten the tour?

Yes. Tours often run longer than booked once guests see what is out here; we have had 3-hour tours turn into all-day trips. We can extend only when no other tour is scheduled after yours, so ask your guide on the day.

Can we bring our dog?

Unfortunately not. We cannot allow dogs on our tours, mainly for liability reasons and because a dog could be injured out on the trail.

About New Mexico Jeep Tours

Our Story

New Mexico Jeep Tours started in 2007. Inspired by Jeep tours he took in Arizona and California, Roch Hart, a retired Albuquerque policeman, returned to the Land of Enchantment and started his own business. He worked with the BLM and with ranchers for permission to visit their land, and ran his first tours in a Jeep he named Precious. In 2011, Clint West began guiding for NMJT, and took over as owner in November 2015. Guests describe Clint as a naturalist, archaeologist, paleontologist, geologist and historian in one, and an expert off-roader and rock crawler. Today we hold exclusive access to a 20,000 acre private ranch in the vast southwest landscape between Albuquerque and Santa Fe — the country behind Lonesome Dove, Maze Runner and Lone Survivor, movie set included.

Clint West | Owner/Guide

Clint West would rather be on the trail than anywhere else. He is the guide on many tours, and is often the one waiting near the trailhead in Placitas. Tell him what you want to see. The ghost town of Hagan, the petroglyph hike, the wild horses: the answer is usually “let’s do as many as we can.” Every tour is private, so the pace and the stops are yours, and the day can stretch when the schedule allows. Websites and marketing are not his thing. Jeep tours are. Send him into the desert and he will stay out there all day.

Our Ethics

We love the Land of Enchantment, and we want to keep it enchanting. On every tour, artifacts and pottery stay exactly where they lie — removing them is a federal crime — and we never touch a petroglyph. Formations are left as we found them, fossils stay in place and get reported, and litter goes home with us. We try to leave places in better shape than we find them. We work with local and federal authorities to protect the cultural and natural resources on the land we visit, and we ask you to do the same while you are out there with us. Everything people ask before they book

Do we drive our own vehicle, or is there a guide?

All of our tours have a driver/guide who drives the Jeep. When you book a tour, you will be a passenger in the Jeep and will not be driving a vehicle.

How many people can you take on a tour?

We can currently take up to 15 people on a tour using our two Jeep Wranglers and our Safari Van.

Can we bring our dog on the tour?

Unfortunately, we cannot allow dogs on our tours due primarily to liability issues and the potential for the dog to be injured.

Do you offer ATV tours?

No, we don’t offer ATV tours. Trip Advisor has us listed under a category that includes “4WD, ATV & Off-Road Tours”. In order to be included in 4WD and off-road tours, we’re stuck with ATV too. Sorry for any confusion this causes.

Are there any bathroom facilities out on the trail?

We have restroom stops at both the beginning and end of the tours, but if a bush is not your idea of a rest stop during the tour, we do have a portable potty.

What should I wear?

Are water and snacks provided?

We provide chilled, bottled water and snacks, but if you want to bring your own favorite beverage that is fine. If anyone has a snack allergy then bringing your own snack is a good idea.

Is the Jeep covered?

The Jeeps arrive at your pick up location covered so that highway travel does not ruin our perfect Jeep tour guide hairdo. But when we hit the trail, you have the option to take the top down to enjoy the sun and air. If you change your mind we will put the top back on if it gets too cold or too warm.

Can we bring our own lunch on the shorter tours?

Yes, we understand that the 4 and 5 hour tours might run into the lunch hour, so you are free to bring food. Keep in mind that if it needs refrigeration, your lunch must fit into the cooler storing the water, so don’t bring a four course meal.

Will we be sharing a Jeep with others we don’t know?

No, unless you are willing to allow a single rider to travel with you. Sometimes people choose to do this so that they can take advantage of the group discount rate.

What if I am a single rider?

We do provide a “single rider” rate for each of our tours, but if the rate is more than you wish to pay, we can try to pair you up with a tour that is booked during the time you have available. It’s kind of like flying “stand by”. Occasionally we can find either another single rider or a tour with 2 people on it who would like to take advantage of our group rate by adding another rider. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will be able to join another tour, and you have to be flexible with your plans.

Can we have the tour tailored to our interests?

Yes, as we get to know you and your interests we take the trails we believe will be the most enjoyable for you. If there is anything that you wish to see, let us know so we can accommodate your interests, provided we have the time to accommodate. Please realize that the shorter hour tours limit the places we can reach and explore.

Will we be seeing lots of wild horses?

We see wild horses on almost every tour, but, since they are wild, we cannot guarantee that we will see them.

Can we feed the wild horses?

Our wild horses are never fed for two reasons. First, it can be hard on their digestion. Some horses have died from eating foods they are not used to. Second, these are wild, feral horses that would gladly bite or hit you to get what they want. These horses are not tame or domesticated, and they live in the desert wilderness fighting other horses for domain day in and day out. Your safety is more important than feeding the horses.

Can we extend or shorten the tour?

Yes of course. We understand that when reservations are made sometimes you are not sure you will like the tour or you may not be feeling well on the day of the tour. Usually we end up extending tour times as our customers realize the full potential of our service. We experience tours that were booked for 3 hours but extended to all day. We can only extend if there are no other tours scheduled.

Do you accept credit cards?

When do we pay?

Payment is usually taken at the end of the tour. This is because some guests decide to extend or shorten the tour. Tips can be added to the credit card bill if you prefer. (Refer to Can we extend or shorten the tour? and Should we tip? And what amount?)

Should we tip? And what amount?

Tipping is completely at your discretion. We never ask for a tip and believe tips should be given only if you truly believe the service provided is more than expected. If you believe your guide performed above and beyond his/her job, then tips are appreciated. Do not feel obligated to tip and whatever amount of tip should be what you feel comfortable with. We will never suggest that you tip.

Do we have to sign a waiver?

Yes. Our insurance company likes that stuff.

Do we have freedom to get out of the Jeep?

YES! We like to cater. So if there is something you want to see, photograph, hike to or explore, please let us know.

Can I take an artifact as a memento?

You are not allowed to remove any artifacts from the sites we visit. It is against the law and unethical to take artifacts from historic sites. Many of these artifacts date back hundreds to thousands of years and are vitally important to archaeology. Please visit our Ethics page for more information

Can we bring a child?

Yes. We do have pricing for children 17 and under, and we have even taken infants. But we do not have booster seats or infant restraint seats, so these need to be provided for your children. We will not transport any children without the proper restraints. In addition, we have cactus, stickers, sharp rocks etc…that maybe foreign to your children. Therefore we request that you help us watch them carefully to make sure they are safe by holding their hand or carrying them. Also no children are allowed to take a tour without a parent or legal guardian.

What if I’m pregnant?

We take the bumps very lightly on all tours. We will make an extra effort to slow down and create any unnecessary jarring or bumping. If you have a medical condition that requires that you not bump around too much, then we suggest you not take the tour.

Will the altitude affect me?

It all depends. Some people are more susceptible to altitude sickness than others. Our tours take place in the “high desert” at about 6,000 ft. So don’t be surprised if you feel winded. This is completely normal, and we promise to move slowly to accommodate the altitude change.

Our Ethics

As you join New Mexico Jeep Tours in experiencing the wonders of the Land of Enchantment, there are a few principles we would like to share with you in how we approach the land and all it has to offer. Long before you and I entered this landscape, the Ancestral Puebloan people called these lands their home and left evidence of their history in the earth. We are privileged to visit some of these sacred sites on our tours. Any artifacts and pottery that we see must stay at the site and should not be disturbed. It is a federal crime to remove artifacts from or disturb a ruin site. Please note: New Mexico Jeep Tours occasionally changes tour locations and offerings, so some of the sites mentioned here may not be on our current tours.

Petroglyphs and Sacred Places

The Ancestral Puebloan people also left their mark on the land in the form of petroglyphs. These ancient pictures and symbols etched into stone must be respected. Please refrain from touching the petroglyphs, and never scratch the surface of the stone anywhere near them. These too are sacred sites and need to be treated as such. Some places contain sensitive geological formations or objects. In areas like these we try to leave the landscape and objects in as good a shape as we find them. We do not climb on, deface, or otherwise harm any of these formations. In fact, we try to leave places in better shape than we find them by removing any litter or trash we see. If everyone respects these places, they will be around for years to come so that others, or maybe even you again, can come and enjoy them.

Fossils and the Future

Fossils, such as the giant Seismosaurus, have been discovered in New Mexico; the bones recovered from the Seismosaur site are now on display in the Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque. There is the potential of seeing fossils on any of our tours, because we hike in areas where very old earth has been pushed to the surface. Should we see any vertebrate fossils, we will not disturb them and must leave them where we find them. Each bone tells a story, and if we move it, the story is ruined. After the tour, we inform the proper authorities of the location. New Mexico Jeep Tours works in collaboration with local and federal authorities to protect all of these cultural and natural resources, and has committed to reporting any suspicious activity or evidence that sites are being disturbed. We have a great respect and appreciation for the Land of Enchantment and consider it a privilege to share it with you. We ask that you respect the opportunity you have to enter this ancient land, and give those who come after you the same opportunity, by practicing sound outdoor and sensitive site ethics.

We can pick you up for your tour for free at The Merc or for a small fee at your hotel (details down the page). The Merc is a grocery store in the Homestead Village shopping center in Placitas, NM, just north of Albuquerque. It is a free pick-up location. Just look for our Jeep in the parking lot. From Albuquerque: take Interstate 25 north to Exit 242. Turn right (east) off the exit ramp and go about 2.3 miles to the Homestead Village shopping center. Find The Merc

Before or After Your Tour

Swing into Soma Coffee House before or after your tour for coffee, a pastry, a piece of pie or a breakfast burrito. Great coffee, great menu and great service. Open Tuesday to Friday 6am to 4pm, weekends 7:30am to 5pm. Stop in at The Merc for a drink or a snack before your tour. It is a great little grocery store that is big on charm. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. For a meal before or after your tour, try Blade's Bistro or Placitas Pizza , and stop by the Wild Hearts Gallery for New Mexican art.

Hotel Pickup

We can pick your party up at your hotel within the Albuquerque city limits for $45 per Jeep . Your tour length is unaffected, but the pickup adds travel time to and from your tour, about an hour for most Albuquerque hotels and the Tamaya. Hyatt Tamaya special: for guests staying at the Hyatt Tamaya, pickup is $25 per Jeep . We do not offer pickup in Santa Fe; The Merc is about a 40-minute drive.

A $50 deposit secures your reservation. It comes off the total when you pay at the end of your tour.

Before you book

NM Jeep Tours is closed on Sundays. A 48-hour advance notice is preferred for tour reservations. A $50 deposit secures your reservation. Deposits are subtracted from the total cost when payment is taken at the end of your tour. Deposits are refunded if the tour is cancelled for weather, or by you more than 24 hours before the start time.

Plain answers before you book

Do we drive our own vehicle, or is there a guide?

All of our tours have a driver/guide who drives the Jeep. When you book a tour, you will be a passenger in the Jeep and will not be driving a vehicle.

How many people can you take on a tour?

We can currently take up to 15 people on a tour using our two Jeep Wranglers and our Safari Van.

Is hiking/walking required on the Jeep tour?

For those who do not wish to hike, we can cater the Jeep tour to your needs. While some of the destinations listed in the tour descriptions require hiking to see, there are alternate destinations that require little or no hiking. For those wishing only to ride, we can take you to some amazing places with beautiful scenery without ever setting foot outside the Jeep.

What should I wear?

Depending on the time of year, the sun can be pretty intense as we’re over a mile high with low humidity. Either wear clothes that cover you up, or slather on the sunscreen. Closed toe and heel shoes are definitely recommended for keeping cactus and rocks from harming your feet.

Will we be seeing lots of wild horses?

We see wild horses on almost every tour, but, since they are wild, we cannot guarantee that we will see them.

Do you accept credit cards?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and cash.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is included on our 6- and 7-hour tours. Every tour includes chilled bottled water and snacks. If a 4- or 5-hour tour runs into the lunch hour you are welcome to bring your own food; anything that needs refrigeration has to fit in the cooler with the water, so keep it simple. You can also order a lunch ahead of time through our lunch menu order form .

Will we be sharing a Jeep with people we don’t know?

No. Every tour is private to your party. The one exception is if you choose to let a single rider join you, which some guests do to take advantage of the group rate.

Can we extend or shorten the tour?

Yes. Tours often run longer than booked once guests see what is out here; we have had 3-hour tours turn into all-day trips. We can extend only when no other tour is scheduled after yours, so ask your guide on the day.

Can we bring our dog?

Unfortunately not. We cannot allow dogs on our tours, mainly for liability reasons and because a dog could be injured out on the trail.

Ghost Town Jeep Tour

Experience everything on the Southwest Safari tour and then visit a coal mining ghost town that you can only see with New Mexico Jeep Tours! The Ghost Town tour takes you to the site of the largest adobe structure in NM in its day and to the location of a short but booming coal mining operation. We had a fantastic tour with Clint. His wealth of knowledge about the area and its history was very interesting. We also enjoyed seeing so much wildlife (tarantula, horses, jackrabbits, and more) and rock formations, and Clint always had cold water at the ready. The at-times bouncy JEEP ride itself was also fun. It felt like we were hours away from civilization but it was a close car ride to our meeting spot. It was nice to have the tour be just the two of us and Clint. This ranked right up there with our balloon ride and our river rafting. Great fun! Thanks, Clint! We will see you on a future visit.

We just spent 3 hours with our very fun, interesting and safe driver Clint who took us to some great areas to explore. This tour includes some great landscapes and we got to see some wild horses: sea fossils: a movie set: old Pueblo ruins: and petroglyphs. Clint also explained the geological area and history. He took us to a place with a tarantula and natural crystals . We had a great tour and highly recommend Clint for a jeep tour from either Albuquerque or Santa Fe.

We had an amazing experience with Clint & New Mexico Jeep Tours! Over the course of four hours we got to see multiple groups of wild horses, ancient petroglyphs, pottery, arrowheads, ruins, tarantulas, and the most gorgeous sunset! This three hour tour was Fantastic! I have mobility issues and was concerned that I’d miss out on things, but Clint was exemplary! This experience is worth every penny and every minute. Our group of 5 fit perfectly in the Safari vehicle. We did the 5-hour tour that included the ghost town, movie set, and petroglyphs - not to mention the stunning views from start to finish. Our tour was scheduled for the afternoon and due to weather they were proactive and called to see if we could go earlier, which I'm glad we could because I would have hated to have missed this. Our driver and tour guide was Frank and he was so knowledgeable about the area and its history. Frank is a native Puebloan. He was so nice and helpful with my 80 year old mother, providing a stool and helping her in and out of the jeep every time. He made the comment he would treat her the same as his own mother, and he certainly did. The tour itself was definitely an "off road" experience so it was bumpy. We did the 4 hour tour with the stop at the town of Hagan. We saw the wild horses several times throughout our trip and was able to get some up close and personal photos of them. We enjoyed learning all about the history of the people and land and also all the bonus info from Frank about his experiences getting to be an "extra" in multiple movies that were shot on the premises. The ranch has been the site of many movies and film series. Overall, this tour was a great experience and I would definitely recommend.

What an amazing day we had with Clint on our recent jeep tour! We got picked up at our resort and within 30 minutes we were transported into another world. Clint is truly a great guide and clearly loves what he does! His knowledge of the area, the history and his respect for the native people who inhabited and the land is refreshing. First thing we noticed was how incredibly quiet it was. Then the cool views and beautiful landscape. One of our goals for the day was to see the wild horses who call this place home and not only did we see them, we actually were able to see them 3 times during our tour including two who crossed our paths in full gallop! We saw native ruins, petroglyphs, pottery shards, arrowheads, a ghost town and an old movie set all over the course of 4 hours! We were in town for our 30th anniversary—we chose a sunset 3 hr trip and had a great time. I walk with a cane and still was able to do the entire trip, including walking around some of the stops for the views and points of interest. I told my husband what an eclectic group of skills Clint has to be able to not only drive across that unpredictable terrain, but also be able to decide his course of directions on the fly, depending on the road conditions. All while carrying on extremely interesting conversation, telling us the history of the area. We had an incredible tour with Clint! The pickup we arranged from the Hyatt resort was seamless and very convenient. Our tour with Clint was phenomenal! He is a wealth of information about the area and all of the sights we saw on our tour. We took the safari van for our tour because we had 5 in our group. Having the side windows off and the roof opened up, it was just as awesome as riding in a jeep would have been. We were lucky enough to see wild horses (which are not guaranteed), but are a magnificent sight if you’re lucky enough to see them. The petroglyphs were amazing. We even saw some ‘dinosaur’ bones (a cow skeleton) which made my 3 year old son’s whole day! We highly recommend taking a tour with Clint. This was the highlight of our trip to the Santa Fe /Albuquerque area! We were able to see beautiful scenery, wild horses, petroglyphs, Pueblo and Spanish artifacts, and learn a lot of the history of the area. NM Jeep Tours My quest was to find and photograph as many petroglyphs as I could. Arranged a New Mexico Jeep Tour with Clint. He was right on time to pick me up from my hotel, if not a bit early. Saw and photographed a plethora of petroglyphs. Clint knows exactly where to find them. He is an expert in ancient rock art, as well as the geology and botany of the region. I learned a lot more than I imagined I would. He provided water and a nice lunch. Saw wild horses. Their ancestors were the horses brought there centuries ago by the Spaniards. As it was winter in NM, I didn't see any scorpions, tarantulas, snakes, etc. Too cold for them to be out and about. Spent quite a few hours in the desert, and I do love deserts. This one is part of the northern reaches of the Chihuahuan Desert. Came home with fond memories, an abrasion from contact with a rock, a story about pulling a few small cactus spines from my leg, and a whole bunch of pics of those amazing petroglyphs made by ancient pueblo ancestors. One thing blew me away. I saw a couple petroglyphs depicting the Thunderbird. We have the same Thunderbird in the Pacific Northwest as it is part of the Coast Salish culture. Same image, over a thousand miles apart. Also, there were spirals, just like the ones found in other deserts, Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. This tour was the highlight of my trip to Albuquerque. While in Albuquerque for the annual balloon fiesta we wanted to find something fun to do on a down day. We decided to book a 7 hour tour with New Mexico Jeep Tours. We met up with our driver Frank in the morning and set off for a great day of off-road fun. Frank was an amazing guide and was so knowledgeable and accommodating. As I am a hobby photographer, Frank made sure to take us to all the great spots for fantastic photo opportunities. We saw lots of wild horses, Native American ruins, a ghost town, a movie set and some incredibly beautiful landscapes. The jeep was well maintained, we always felt safe and comfortable and they even provided a box lunch, drinks and snacks. Our full day was on the pricey side for a full day of activities, but it was money well spent for a beautiful day of adventure. Highly recommended New Mexico Jeep Tours!

This was the best thing we did all week. Well worth it !! The ride was so much fun, seeing everything from an old mine, wild horses and movie set locations. Cliff and Frank were the best. Frank was out tour guide and was very friendly, knowledgeable, courteous and an excellent driver. We really enjoyed this tour with spectacular views over challenging terrain. This jeep tour was the best thing we did when we were in Albuqueque! Besides some amazing scenery, we were able to get up close to visit awesome petroglyphs, explore home sites of early Spanish settlement and Puebloan peoples. Our guide, Clint, shared great stories and loads of information about the geology and history of the area. Lots of opportunities to view the local fauna and flora - including wild horses that sprinted through the clearing at one point. This is a great opportunity to experience New Mexico on a private ranch with a knowledgeable guide - 100 times better than a museum visit.

We have an annual family trip in different locations. Took our 5 year old grandkid for the first time this trip. Clint the owner/guide was awesome. Great job of explaining the area and showing us many of the unique things the area had to offer. Our family group of 8 went on the 3 hour jeep tour. Clint and Frank were our guides and were amazing!! We learned so many things and Clint and Frank shared so much of their knowledge with us. Experiencing the many wonders of the desert with Clint and Frank is simply a must visiting Albuquerque. Riding on the jeep was fun and a little rugged, but we liked it. First, I will disclose that I am a big-time review reader and writer, good or bad. This was our third trip to Albuquerque, but the first jeep tour there. From the many reviews on this adventure and I felt confident that it would be really good...and it was! We reserved a time slot for a 4-hour private tour and were excited to be with no other participants or vehicles. We met up with Clint in a little store called the Merc in a country strip mall place in Placitas, just north of Albuquerque. He was a very friendly guy dressed in cargo pants, hiking boots, a Columbia sport shirt, and a floppy hat. He greeted us with a smile and after a quick intro gave us a brief summary of his jeep, supplies, safety, snacks, etc., then we were off to the desert. It was obvious that Clint’s jeep was in good condition, well powered, sturdy body, rugged off-road tires, with some desert dust in the cracks and crevices but otherwise clean. Clint was very professional throughout the tour and never made us feel unsafe in any way. The weather was perfect; mid to upper 70’s, very low humidity, partly cloudy, gentle breeze. Clint kept the jeep top up, but we donned sunscreen to be sure not to get sunburn. The only negative effect from the trip was a little bit of chapped lips, which we had ChapStick for. It became very clear in no time that Clint was well versed in the history of the area, as he had grown up there, knew the land and navigated like he owned the county. The ranch that the tour was on is a private 20,000 acres that he has exclusive rights to, so we never saw another person throughout the tour. Clint explained to us some of the history of the Puebloan Indians in the desert and where some of their villages used to be. He knew the locations of remains of dwellings and stopped to point out to us artifacts and buildings that would be overlooked if you didn’t know where to look. Clint was also very well versed in the natural flora and fauna on the ranch, identifying many species of trees, cacti, shrubs, prairie grasses, and flowers. He pointed out geological features on some of the mountains and roads, colors due to different elements such as iron, gypsum, sulpher, and copper. We stopped at several areas scattered with obsidian (natural black glass), selenite, and petrified wood, which Clint described some of the origins of each and how the Indians would use them. He had several staches of pieces of arrowheads, axes, bone tools, pottery shards, and even some ancient sea fossils. Clint took us to several locations to view some petroglyphs and talked about what some archeologists had interpreted the symbols to mean. We also went to an old coal mining town of Hagan built out in the middle of nowhere in 1924. Clint showed us where the Sci-Fi channel did some filming of scenes in the short-lived TV series, Tremors, at one of the mine tunnel entrances. Later we went to another area where a small movie town set was built for several movies. As several of the reviews we read mentioned sighting wild horses we were hopeful of catching some on our tour. Clint commented that he was hopeful too but couldn’t guarantee. About an hour into the tour, he spotted a couple lone mares, then a little later another group with a couple more mares, a fold and a stallion. The highlight of the tour was about halfway through when we came across a larger group, that were watching us as we stopped and then started running across the road as if to put a show on for us. Later we came up on another group noted by most all the horses with different markings and colors from the previous ones, and these were even closer and did not seem to care at all. We stopped for a snack and a bio break about midway through the tour. Clint provided cold bottled water, selections of packs of cheese & PB crackers, M&M’s, chips, and peanuts. As the side of an abandoned building worked for my relief, Clint provided my wife with a portable potty (5-gallon bucket), equipped with a seat, sanitary bag with absorbing gel-like material, set up in a room in the mine entrance…she was totally comfortable with it. On the ride back to town Clint told us of some of the sites around Albuquerque worth venturing to, his recommendations on local restaurants and parks, museums, natural features and historical landmarks. All in all, this was nothing short of a completely enjoyable experience that we will remember for a long time and would recommend to anyone. Thanks Clint!

Clint is a great tour guide and this tour was an amazing experience. We booked the 3 hour tour and added the Grand Arroyo and Hagan abandoned coal mine town. The tour had everything--geology, archeology, paleontology, history, flora and fauna, and even Hollywood. We saw a roadrunner-who played hide and seek with us, and the wild horses. Scheduled this Jeep Tour so I could see land I wouldn't be able to explore on my own and boy did I !!! Clint took me to private land that had wild horses, a Spanish Land Grant, Indian aritifacts, a slot canyon that had been under the ocean miliions of years ago that had many fossils in it.. Amazing scenery and Clints knowledge of the history of the land made it very interesting... He even thought to bring a portable potty. We had 3 travelers - all between the ages of 55-68, and we LOVED this tour! Clint was so knowledgeable, showed us ruins, fossils, small herds of wild horses (and a precious foal), and taught us so much about the desert and history of Indian tribes. Before going, I thought the desert was just hot, dry, and not very full of life...but being out in the desert and not just seeing it from the road changed everything for me. It was beautiful - interesting - and exciting! Honest company, really nice jeep, great conversation, so informative, and FUN! We highly recommend this tour. TIP: Wear sunscreen and a hat - if you open the top of the jeep, the sun will burn you. Also, wear closed-toe tennis shoes because you will get out and walk at different points and the terrain is not always perfectly smooth.

My partner and I took a tour with Clint while in Albuquerque for the Gathering of Nations. Initially we were going to take my elderly parents, including my dad who is a bit frail. Clint was very accommodating and offered to be flexible to meet our needs. In the end, just my partner and I went because my dad needed to rest. We went from a larger group to just the 2 of us. Despite our group being small, Clint was welcoming and had shared a tonne of knowledge about the history and landscape of the area. He took the time to explain in detail different historical facts and geology, and gave us extra time to take photos. We even saw wild horses!
